Formal Invitation...

The formal wear initiative provides dresses to women, some of whom may not otherwise attend a formal occasion.  In the beginning, the Department of Labor's Delaware Commission for Women lent space for the gowns to be stored, thanks to the efforts of our partner, Stephany Foster, who perished tragically on April 14, 2006, in an auto accident.

Avenue United Methodist Church, Milford, adopted the project as a mission in December 2005.  Due to renovations at the church, the project recently moved.  We were blessed to find a new location thanks to the kindness of Fernado Guajardo, Clothes 2 You Cleaners, at their Park Avenue location in Milford, Delaware.

Fortunately, Thoro-Kleen Dry Cleaning and Laundry, owned by Joseph Booth, Georgetown, kindly assisted with the dry cleaning of the gowns at a reduced rate in the past.  Clothes 2 You now offers similar services, in addition to the project's co-location.

Gowns are offered free of charge, however, donations are graciously accepted to cover the costs of the cleaning and maintenance of the gowns and program operations.  Since "Gee...You Will..." began, many have joined in this effort: thanks to donations and a relationship with Christiana Gowns, the inventory now offers over 350 gowns, many of them new, in a variety of shapes, sizes, and styles.
